Genesis: In the Beginning (January 2 - April 24, 2011)
In this sermon series, we will be exploring the powerful creation narrative of Genesis.  First, we will explore how all of life is rooted in the character and nature of God.  God is relational, creator, good, and life-giving.  Second, we will explore God's purpose for our lives, including touchy subjects like manhood, womanhood, sexuality, marriage, morality/ethics, and even God's perspective on being "green"!  Last, we will explore how God redeems our shattered lives and world for his glory.
Genesis: In the Beginning (January 2 - April 24, 2011)
Our God is Intensely Relational
[January 2, 2011] Our God is Intensely Relational. In the beginning, the one true God, Elohim, creates everything in the heavens and earth. But Elohim is really the Godhead, three in one; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God isn't just intensely relational within the Godhead. He is intensely relational with his creation, with us. The story of God is about an intensely relational God who intensely relates to his creation. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Our God is Infinitely Powerful
[January 9, 2011] Our God is Infinitely Powerful. We worship and serve a powerful God who created the heavens and the earth. But how does our belief contrast with the belief that is commonly taught in our schools and espoused in the media? Is there a firm foundation for our faith? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Our God is Decidedly Good
[January 16, 2011] Our God is Decidedly Good. Science has a naturalistic explanation for the creation of the world. But what does the Bible say about creation? The Bible tells us that God created the world in both form and function. At every stage of creation, "God saw that it was good." We have a good world created with the imagination of a good God. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
All Life is Sacred
[January 23, 2011] Sanctity of Life. Our God is a life-giving God. David expresses the value of God's special creation in Psalm 139:13-14. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." But God's power goes beyond creation of life. It extends to forgiveness of our sins, through the power of Jesus' death and resurrection. A message by Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Created to Reflect God's Image
[January 30, 2011] Created to Reflect God's Image. Scientists say that we share 99 percent of our DNA with chimpanzees. Does this make us just like animals? The Bible teaches that man is created in God's image, and unlike animals, we have the spiritual capacity to become holy, just as God is holy. How does this capacity change the way we live our lives? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.   read more...
Created to Be Green
[February 6, 2011] Created to Be Green. Living in the way of Jesus means that we remember that we are created in the image of the living God. So what does it look like when we live our lives being respectful of God's image and God's creation? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Created to Rest in God's Word
[February 13, 2011] Created to Rest in God's Word. God rested from his creation on the seventh day, setting that day apart and making it holy. One day in seven, we are to worship, adore, and value our Creator, who is to be forever praised. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Sustained by God's Breath
[February 20, 2011] Sustained by God's Breath. In order for the earth to come alive with plant life, God had to provide rain. Just as the earth craves water, our souls crave the breath of God's Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is to our souls as rain is to the earth; we cannot flourish without it. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.   read more...
Created to Be Free
[February 27, 2011] Created to Be Free. God created the Garden of Eden as a place of beauty, joy, responsibility, and true freedom. Unlike us, Adam was free not to sin, but he did choose to commit sin anyway, of his own free will. But God frees us from our sin, and we can once again have true freedom through God's offer of salvation through his Son, Jesus Christ. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.   read more...
Created to Trust God
[March 6, 2011] Created to Trust God. God's laws are for our benefit, but just as God's command was ignored in Eden, we continue to rebel against God today. But thanks be to God, even when we have sinned, God's light shines upon us and he invites us to cry out to him once more for salvation. Though we've stumbled a thousand times, he can rescue us. We must learn to embrace him as our lawgiver and judge. He is our Lord, the way, the truth, and the life. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
God's Desire for Marriage
[March 13, 2011] God's Desire for Marriage. Genesis contains the foundational verses that form the Christian view of marriage. Whether you are married, single, or in a troubled marriage relationship, these eleven pillars of a successful marriage can help you insure the sanctity of your marriage covenant with your spouse. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
The Liar and His Lies
[March 20, 2011] The Liar and His Lies. In Eden, everything was perfect. But then, the serpent slithers into the garden. Just as Lucifer wreaked havoc in heaven, he started to stir up trouble on earth, soiling God's perfect creation. Why does Satan want to turn people from God? And what methods does he use, even today, to try to spoil God's salvation for us, through Jesus Christ? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
MOMENTUM SUNDAY
[March 27, 2011] MOMENTUM SUNDAY. As Lakeside grows larger, the threats to our unity become more active. So we must agree on the essentials that bind us together. We agree to lift up the name of Jesus. We agree to walk by faith. We agree to become a large church. We agree to be intentional, believing as Jesus believed, becoming like Jesus, belonging to Jesus, and being sent on Jesus' mission. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Shattered Self
[April 3, 2011] Shattered Self. Satan is alive and he is a deadly enemy. When he disguised himself as a serpent, he enticed Adam and Eve to sin. Satan appealed to Eve's appetites, emotions, and pride. Later, Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the same way. Have his strategies changed, or is he tempting us today in the same ways? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Shattered Families
[April 10, 2011] Shattered Families. Adam and Eve lived in a perfection especially created for them by God. Yet, they sinned and their perfect family was shattered by the consequences of their sin. They engaged in the types of behavior that we today use when we are confronted with our own sin. But God still provides for our salvation, despite our rebellion against him. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Sacrifice and Redemption
[April 17, 2011] Sacrifice and Redemption. After they sinned, Adam and Eve's shame was so great that they covered themselves with leaves and tried to hid in the trees from God. But God sacrifices an animal to provide a garment of skin in which to clothe Adam and his wife. Isaiah anticipates the day when God would offer his Son as a sacrifice for sin, that we would be clothed not with the blood of animals, but clothed with the very righteousness of Christ. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
