Rescue: Christ's Power to Redeem (September 4 - November 20, 2011)Rescue: Christ's Power to Redeem (September 4 - November 20, 2011)
We've been deeply wounded by the sins of others.   Their thoughts.  Their words.   Their deeds.  Their ill-motives.   We've only deepened our wounds by our sinful responses to others.  Our thoughts.   Our words.  Our deeds.  Our ill-motives.  Christ came to rescue us from the dominion of darkness that has our world spiraling out of control.  He offers true redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Rescue - Christ's Power to Redeem
Rescue: The Rescue Begins
[September 4, 2011] Rescue: The Rescue Begins. Think of how many people we pass by every day, who lay dying in ditches, who when they see us pass by, feel as though God himself has passed them by. Will anyone ever stop, see them, have compassion toward them, or be generous and loving to them? God hasn't passed them by, but Christians sometimes pass by. We need to see the big picture and realize that we are God's instruments of help on this earth. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From Imminent Danger
[September 11, 2001] Rescue: From Imminent Danger. There are many among us who live in a prison of fear and who feel there is no hope of rescue or redemption. But in the midst of terror, God is nearer and more real than we could ever imagine. In our danger, in our fear, God is working out his plan of redemption. God sees our struggle and is responsive to our faith when we cry out to him. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From a Troubled Childhood
[September 18, 2011] Rescue: From a Troubled Childhood. Just as we have physical scars, we have childhood scars. Some scars were caused by parental negligence, some by our own poor choices, and some by the willful sins against us by evil people. Where was God when all this was happening to us? The truth is that God allows evil for a time, but in the end, his vengeance is complete. We need to turn to God's redemptive power to rescue us from a troubled childhood. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From a Wasted Life
[September 25, 2011] Rescue: From a Wasted Life. She was the kind of woman people would whisper about, but never spoke to. Men who had taken interest in her repeatedly left her abandoned and damaged after exploiting her. But then she met the man of her dreams, who spoke plainly to her and refused to avoid her. He took time to give her dignity and listen to her story. He left her with an overwhelming sense that her life didn't have to be wasted any longer. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From Total Captivity
[October 2, 2011] Rescue: From Total Captivity. Why do we live our lives in total captivity to sin? In many cases, it is because we do not submit ourselves to baptism by immersion. Submission unto baptism is nothing less than embracing God's purpose for our lives. It's a pledge of allegiance to do the will of God. Baptism means that we submit to a new Lord, a new King, a new authority. Instead of being captive to sin, we become captives of Jesus Christ. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From My Character Defect
[October 9, 2011] Rescue: From My Character Defect. Despite appearances, each of us struggles daily against sin. We have multiple character defects, and we judge others harshly for the very things we've struggled with. Consider Paul's words in Romans 7:24. "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?" We are freed from condemnation, cleansed and purified, and made new by Jesus Christ. That's how we overcome our character defects! A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From Toxic Anger
[October 16, 2011] Rescue: From Toxic Anger. Would you be angry if the person who wronged you was offered God's grace and mercy? Sometimes we hate the things that God loves. We celebrate God's grace while withholding it from others. This was Jonah's problem as well. He was overcome with anger when God saved the Ninevites. Can we be rescued from the same character flaw that plagued Jonah? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From a Ruined Economy
[October 23, 2011] Rescue: From a Ruined Economy. There's no doubt that we are living in a poor economy. There's lots of blame being thrown around. But how much of our personal economic calamity is brought on by our moral failures? Have we kept our vows to God? Is he blessing the lifestyle and financial choices we have made? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From my Broken Sexuality
[October 30, 2011] Rescue: From my Broken Sexuality. Chastity was the one completely new virtue which Christianity introduced into the pagan world. Jesus' call to sexual purity came like an unexpected beacon revealing a new direction to men and women regarding the use of their sexuality. Jesus' words are still relevant to us today. A message by Kent Paris.  read more...
Rescue: From My Wild Side
[November 6, 2011] Rescue: From My Wild Side. Encarta defines contempt as a "powerful feeling of dislike toward somebody or something considered to be worthless, inferior, or undeserving of respect." Did you know that the emotion of contempt drives most of our wild behavior? Jesus tells a parable of a younger son and elder brother who both show contempt toward their father, but for entirely different reasons. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.   read more...
Rescue: From Injustice and Betrayal
[November 13, 2011] Rescue: From Injustice and Betrayal. Betrayal is a powerful emotion. We often feel powerless and angry when we are betrayed. But betrayal is not just a human emotion. God feels betrayal also. How does God handle betrayal? Are there lessons to be learned from God about how we forgive those who have betrayed us? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From Ingratitude
[November 20, 2011] Rescue: From Ingratitude. When Jesus healed the ten lepers he was well on his way to Jerusalem, where he would be betrayed by Judas, be handed over to the chief priests, and die on the cross for our sins. Jesus gave up his life to save us. Are we grateful? Probably. But here is the question. Have we returned to Christ? Do we now exist for the praise of his glory? Do we shout thanks to our creator for all the world to hear? A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
Rescue: From This Body of Death
[November 27, 2011] Rescue: From This Body of Death. Christ's power to redeem us extends to rescuing us from death itself. Jesus was betrayed, crucified, and buried. But on the third day, he was bodily resurrected from death. God promises us that we too can be rescued from death by the power of God's Spirit. A message by Dr. Jon Morrissette.  read more...
