What do you think of when you hear the word "Church"? In the original Greek language, the word for Church, pronounced ekklesia, referred to those who had been "called out of" the world to become part of Christ's redeemed community. More specifically, it referred to those who had been called out of the world to join the unstoppable movement of Jesus.
Many see the Church as something that is static, or even dead. But what Chirst established was something dynamic and powerful. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus promises that no matter what opposition his movement may encounter, nothing would prevail against his poeple, the Church. He promised that we would be a part of an unstoppable movement that would change the world.
In this sermon series, we are going to unpack what the movement of Jesus is all about, through a study of 1 Timothy. This letter was written by Paul to encourage, inspire, and equip a young man who was eager to lead the movement of Jesus in the city of Ephesus. As Lakeside celebrates her 50th anniversary this April, we want to remain true to Christ's vision for his Church and unleash its power on our great city.
