Study Questions

  1. Share about your family's faith background. Can you trace your spiritual heritage, i.e. your spiritual family tree?
  2. As Nehemiah organizes the people, what is it that unifies them? Why were people so impacted? What was the point of the feast in Nehemiah 8:13-18 (see Leviticus 23:33-43)? Why did the people respond as they did to God's Word being read in 8:7-10?
  3. Why do you think God included so many celebrations (or feasts) for the Jewish people throughout the year (Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Weeks, Trumpets, Day of Atonement)" What holidays/festivals does the church celebrate today? How do these celebrations lead us to respond with joy, repentance, sorrow and faithfulness?
  4. Why is being rooted in God's Word so important? How can you remain rooted? (Have you gone through the Rooted study?)
  5. What are some ways you might help your family/friends/group to be anchored in Christ? What kind of spiritual family tree are you passing down?
  6. Read Psalm 119:105-112 as a prayer.
