Study Questions

1. Share about a time when you knew that a difficult or challenging situation was coming, and you took it head on.

2. Read John 18:1-14. If you had been one of Jesus' disciples, what feelings would you have had when the soldiers arrived at the garden? What do you make of Peter's mindset and actions in 18:10? And Jesus' rebuke in 18:11 (see also Matthew 26:39-44)?

3. Compare and contrast the attitudes and actions of Jesus and Peter

  • Read John 18:19-24, 28-38a. In what specific ways does Jesus display courage? Power? Obedience to the Father?
  • Now, Read John 18:15-18, 25-27. What lessons can we learn from the different ways Jesus and Peter responded to challenging situations
  • 4. Read Psalm 86:15; Matthew 5:39; James 1:19. The next time you face a challenging situation how can you respond in a godly way?
